Society for in vitro biology

The Society for In Vitro Biology (SIVB) was founded in 1946 as the Tissue Culture Association to foster exchange of knowledge of in vitro biology of cells, tissues and organs from both plant and animals (including humans). The focus is on biological research, development, and applications of significance to science and society.

Database of Complete Genome Homologous Genes Families

HOGENOM is a database of homologous genes from fully sequenced organisms (bacteria, archeaea and eukarya) , structured under ACNUC sequence database management system. It allows to select sets of homologous genes among species, and to visualize multiple alignments and phylogenetic trees. It is as well possible to search for orthologous genes in a wide range of taxons. Thus HOGENOM is particularly useful for comparative sequence analysis, phylogeny and molecular evolution studies. More generaly, HOGENOM gives an overall view of what is known about a peculiar gene family. Note that HOGENOM is splitted into two databases: HOGENOM contains the protein sequences while HOGENOMDNA contains the nucleotide sequences. Protein sequences of HOGENOM have been generated by translating the CDS of HOGENOMDNA and using associated cross-references to generate the annotations.

Human Oral Genomic and Metagenomic Resource
Biodic

It offers today the widest series of electron micrographs available on the web in the field of biology: over 1600 images are currently available in high resolution.

Bibliography of Genetic Variation in Natural Populations

This bibliography, compiled by professor Fred Allendorf and maintained by the University of Montana, is a collection of more than 80.000 references on genetic variation in natural populations of animals, plants, and microbes, with particular emphasis on salmonid fish. Other topics such as the application of genetic principles to conservation, are also included. The interface offers a quick text search across all fields, or an advanced search for specifying authors, keywords, periodical, publication year, and title, and permits the usage of Boolean operators.

CalPhotos

CalPhotos has been on the web since 1995 and was one of the first online image databases specializing in natural history subjects. The database currently contains 404,911 digital images of plants, animals, and other natural history subjects, along with descriptive information including scientific and common names, location and dates of photos, and other information provided by the person or organization that contributed the photos. Around 2,000 new photos are added each month by a variety of organizations and individuals that have registered with CalPhotos.

Genome Institute at Washington University

The Genome Institute (TGI) is a world leader in the fast-paced, constantly changing field of genomics. A truly unique institution, we are pushing the limits of academic research by creating, testing, and implementing new approaches to the study of biology with the goal of understanding human health and disease, as well as evolution and the biology of other organisms.

American Society of Mammalogists

The American Society of Mammalogists (ASM) was established in 1919 for the purpose of promoting interest in the study of mammals.

Ensembl Genome browser

The Ensembl project produces genome databases for vertebrates and other eukaryotic species, and makes this information freely available online.

Radar entomology web site

Radar entomology is the technique and science of using radar to study insect movement. It has proved valuable in the study of insect migration, and has been used especially in research on insect pests that are migratory (of which there are many). Radar has also been used to study non-migratory (i.e. foraging) movements.

Plants in Motion

The site is intended to serve as a resource for nonprofit educational use. Time-lapse photography allows to view the movements of plants and clearly demonstrates that plants are living organisms capable of some extraordinary things.

International Union of Biological Sciences

The International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation, established in 1919. Its objectives are: to promote the study of biological sciences,to initiate, facilitate and coordinate research and other scientific activities necessitating international, interdisciplinary cooperation, to ensure the discussion and dissemination of the results of cooperative research, particularly in connection with IUBS scientific programmes,to support the organisation of international conferences and assist in the publication of their reports

The wildlife Society

The Wildlife Society is committed to a world where humans and wildlife co-exist. We work to ensure that wildlife and habitats are conserved through management actions that take into careful consideration relevant scientific information. We create opportunities for this to occur by involving professional wildlife managers, disseminating wildlife science, advocating for effective wildlife policy and law, and building the active support of an informed citizenry.

DNA from the beginning
Online Biology Degree

OnlineBiologyDegree.com, aims to create the most complete, reliable and useful resource for students interested in studying biology at any degree level. The site has all of the information someone needs to help him determine if he should study biology, from the facts regarding biology education to personal anecdotes, and advice about working as a biology professional.

A Guide to the Orders of Trilobites

This site's pages (and the majority of its figures) were designed and created by Dr. Sam Gon III, a biologist (PhD, Animal Behavior

Amphibia Web

AmphibiaWeb is an online system enabling anyone online to search and retrieve information relating to amphibian biology and conservation.

Functional Genomics of Plant Transporters

PlantsT is a site dedicated to the uptake and translocation of mineral nutrients and toxic metals in plants, with the objective of identifying gene networks that control these processes.

Genethics

A clearing house for information on the social, ethical and policy issues associated with genetic and genomic knowledge and technology.

Royal Entomological Society

The Royal Entomological Society was founded in 1833 as the Entomological Society of London and is the successor to a number of short-lived societies dating back to 1745. The Society's aim is to improve and disseminate knowledge of and about insect science.
