PhD Theses

National Documentation Centre (EKT) is, by law (1566/1985), the competent authority for the development and maintenance of the National Archive of PhD Theses, instituted in 1985 and operated by EKT since then, NA.PhD. collects, in digital form, doctoral dissertations awarded by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Greece as well as PhD Theses awarded to Greek scholars by foreign HEIs and certified by the Hellenic NARIC.

Today, more than 45.000 doctoral dissertations are available in the Digital Repository, a unique stock of Greek scientific and academic knowledge. This Digital Repository provides us the following services:
a)      Simple and advanced search of a PhD thesis thought the fields of bibliographic records.
b)      Navigation based on defined fields of bibliographic records (scientific field, educational institution, year of award, author, country, language).
c)       View a digital file of a PhD Thesis only for reading.      
Moreover, this Digital Depository offers only to registered users the ability to download a digital file of a PhD Thesis.

Also, any user can access doctoral dissertations by utilizing:

  • Document Delivery Services & Interlibrary Loans, to order a thesis to which he/she does not have offsite access
  • The ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global (PQDTGlobal) subscription database, which is accessible through free Wifi connection in the Library and the Electronic Reading Room. The ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global (PQDTGlobal) database is the most comprehensive collection of Ph.D. and Master Theses from all over the world. It includes both references for dissertations written from 1637 till today and summaries of many dissertations written from the 1980s onwards. It provides free access to the full text of one million and more dissertations, mainly from 1997 onwards but also some older ones, while more than 2.1 million titles are available for purchase in hard copy. Finally, it provides access to a 24-page preview when it is available.
