The Internet of Things in Greece: New perspectives for funding, co operations and networking

The internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data.

An interesting event entitled “AIOTI Open Day: Funding & Innovation via Internet of Things (IoT) in Greece “ took place on February 8th, 2016,at the Hellenic National Research Foundation, co organized by the National Documentation Centre and the Alliance for the Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI). Among the interesting issues discussed during the event were the increased Greek participation in European Research Projects about IoT and the development of co operations between the Universities and the Entrepreneurs, through the foundation of a Greek Organization for IoT. The event was addressed to the technology providers as well as the end users of technology and aimed at the enlargement of the national participation in one of the most important developing technologies.

The internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. In 2013 the Global Standards Initiative on Internet of Things (IoT-GSI) defined the IoT as "the infrastructure of the information society." The Internet of Things consists already of 10 billion online devices and experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020, creating limitless perspectives for the Governments, the enterprises and the citizens.
