The European Framework for Digitally Competent Educational Organisations (DigCompOrg) now available in Greek

DigCompOrg is published in Greek by EKT and the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute to contribute to the effective use of digital technologies in teaching and learning.

The National Documentation Centre and the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute took the initiative to translate and publish 'The European Framework for Digitally-Competent Educational Organisations (DigCompOrg) in Greek, contributing to the digital transformation of educational organisations in Greece and Cyprus.

The DigCompOrg reference framework encourages and supports educational and training organisations in effectively using digital technologies in teaching and learning. DigCompOrg also aims to support policy makers in designing, implementing and evaluating actions for integrating and effectively using digital technologies in education.

The publication, ‘Promoting Effective Learning in the Digital Age – The European Framework for the Digital Competence of Education Organisations’, is a science-for-policy report of the Joint Research Centre, the internal scientific service of the European Commission.

What the DigCompOrg reference framework can offer

As digital technologies are being integrated at an impressive pace and manner at all levels of education and training, the digital transformation of educational organisations is necessary so that they can:

  • improve their capacity to take advantage of digital technologies across their activities,
  • support students and teachers in cultivating their digital competence as individuals and active citizens.

However, the digital transformation of educational organisations is happening at a different pace and with different goals and results. The DigCompOrg framework can be a reference point for any effort aimed at cultivating the capacity of educational organisations to creatively use modern technologies for effective teaching and learning in our digital age.

EKT and the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute will soon publish in Greek the European framework for the digital competence of teachers. Likewise, the framework for the digital competence of citizens (DigComp 2.2) will soon be available in Greek from the Ministry of Digital Governance. The circulation of all three reference frameworks in Greek is expected to contribute decisively to the effort made in Greece and Cyprus to cultivate the digital capacity of citizens.

How is DigCompOrg structured

DigCompOrg takes a systematic approach to defining and nurturing educational organisations' digital capacity. The reference framework consists of seven key elements and fifteen sub-elements common to all sectors and levels of education. It also includes 74 descriptors and allows the framework to be adapted to specific areas of education and training.

The digital capacity of educational organisations is necessary to promote effective learning in the digital age, and DigCompOrg seeks to:

  • facilitate transparency and comparison between relevant initiatives in Europe,
  • encourage education and training organisations to make effective use of digital technologies for teaching and learning,
  • support policy makers in designing and implementing actions to improve the digital capacity of education and training organisations.

DigCompOrg has been translated into 10 languages and used in many initiatives to cultivate the digital competence of European educational organisations. It also formed the theoretical basis for developing SELFIE, a practical and free online tool with which school heads, teachers and students can collectively reflect on how digital technologies are used in teaching and learning. SELFIE has been used to date by more than 5 million school leaders, teachers and students in 92 countries and is available in Greek.
