The General Secretary for Research and Technology (GSRT) recently invited proposals for eight concerted research and technology programmes in specific sectors, with closing dates between 14/10/2002 and 13/01/2003. These programmes are incorporated in the Operational Programme 'Competitiveness' (Measure 4.5 'Research and technological development consortia in sectors of national priority), which are 60% publicly funded and 40% privately funded. The overall budget for the programmes is 123 million euros, of which 72 million comes from the public purse.
These programmes, among others, were presented at a press conference held by the General Secretary for Research and Technology, Mr D. Deniozos, on Tuesday 1 October 2002. According to Mr Deniozos, the Operational Programmes 'Competitiveness' and 'Information Society', include more than 50 activities for technological innovation and research, with an overall budget of 775 million euros. More than half the activities are being implemented, and 16 activities are receiving funding.
The concerted programmes aim to promote collaboration between business enterprises and research entities on long-term projects, with a view to producing innovative products or services and meeting social and cultural needs which affect the economy's competitiveness.
The programmes relate to activities in the fields of basic research, industrial research, and initial demonstration (pre-competitive research), in projects with a maximum duration ranging from 18 to 36 months, depending on the programme. Partnerships of businesses, research centres, educational institutions, non-profit organisations, and other interested entities can take part in the programmes, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of businesses (especially small and medium-sized enterprises).
Note that proposals must be submitted to GSR? in Greek (1 copy) and English (4 copies), as the evaluation committees will include foreign experts.
