National Research Information and Technology System: Digital Content Aggregation, Documentation and Dissemination Infrastructure ensuring interoperability, long-term preservation and open access

The purpose of the project is technological upgrading, enhancement with new functionalities, business alignment with European policies and  expansion of  services to meet new requirements of the National Digital Infrastructure of Aggregation, Documentation, Dissemination and Preservation of Digital Content and Data. The aim is to ensure that there are the  required skills to address strategic challenges at the national level, to escalate the aggregation of digital content and data produced in the country, to guarantee its digital preservation and user-friendly dissemination, exploitation and reuse in science, research, culture, education, entrepreneurship and society in general.

Objectives include the introduction of common interoperability standards in digitisation projects for standardised online publishing and reuse of generated content, the scaling up and standardisation of digital content aggregation from distributed infrastructure from thematic portals and its availability in the respective European infrastructures, the creation of the 'digital public space' for the National Digital Cultural and Scientific output and the development of a unified infrastructure for use by public interest bodies for the creation, publication and establishment of vocabularies, thesaurus , lists of established names and other contextual data as Open Interconnected Data.

The goals will be achieved through actions in 3 main pillars:

Pillar I- Aggregation & single search:The first pillar of the Project will enhance the standardisation, consolidation, aggregation, central availability, dissemination and reuse of  National Digital Scientific (including  Cultural) output. The main goal is to create a single interoperable space for access to and advanced search of the reliable scientific, technological and cultural content that is aggregated by the distributed information systems of its producers with emphasis on its availability for use and reuse with minimal restrictions and its safe storage. Under Pillar I, EKT will design and implement new integrated versions of the two major Aggregation Portals (National Aggregator of Cultural Content, Aggregator of Scientific Content), develop a Single Access Portal for standard bibliographies andsearch and reuse of all digital content aggregated on its infrastructure.

Pillar II – Content Infrastructures: The second pillar of the Project focuses on the enhancement of primary production and distribution of digital content and data from scientific, cultural and public administration bodies. It will develop or upgrade reciprocal services and tools that will catalyse the digital transformation of institutions by facilitating their production and / or distribution of digital content and data. To this end, Pillar II will include the development of new versions of the infrastructures for the National Archive of PhD Theses, Repository, Electronic Publications and Bibliographic Data Management.

Pillar III – Horizontal Infrastructure:In parallel with its main infrastructures,  EKT will develop supporting documentation tools and services that optimise and enrich the digital content and bibliographic data hosted on them.
