Career Talks for young researchers at National Hellenic Research Foundation

Experienced researchers will present career prospects and opportunities in research with the aim of inspiring the audience of mainly young researchers at the beginning of their careers.

A unique discussion on the career prospects and opportunities in research is being organised for Wednesday 28th November by the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) in co-operation with the National Documentation Centre (EKT), as part of the ERA-Mobility.GR-HORIZON 2020 project and the ‘Knowledge and Partnership Bridges’ initiative. The discussion is part of the two-day event Careers Day for Young Researchers 2018, being held by the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) on 27 and 28 November 2018, which aims to support mainly young researchers in the search for career opportunities in research.

‘Career Talks’ will take place in the NHRF, L.Zervas Amphitheatre (10:00-12:00), with experienced researchers presenting career prospects and opportunities in research with the aim of inspiring the audience of mainly young researchers at the beginning of their careers. Emphasis will be given to the benefits of researchers worldwide networking, and the opportunities that may arise from different mobility programmes.

Talks will be given by:

  • Dr Nektarios Nasikas, a physicist specialising in the physical chemistry of materials, Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI)
  • Dr Kalliopi Dasira, an astrophysicist, post-doctoral researcher at the National Observatory of Athens, winner of the L’Oreal-UNESCO for women in science (2016)
  • Dr Panayiotis Zoumpoulaki, principal researcher, Institute of Biology, Medicinal Chemistry & Biotechnology, National Hellenic Research Foundation, in charge of liaison in the Institutional Programme of Postgraduate Studies in Bioentrepreneurship
  • Dr Maria Kaliampou, Senior Lecturer in Modern Greek Language, Yale University (via Sype)
  • Dr Ioannis Baziotis, assistant Professor Agricultural University of Athens and the first Greek to participate in the NASA mission in search of meteorites in Antarctica  November 2017

The discussion will be co-ordinated by Dr Vasilis Gregoriou, Director and Chairman of the NHRF Board.

The day before, Tuesday 27 November 2018, young researchers will be given the chance to meet and talk with potential employers in the business field, and support providers for research and researchers in order to:

  • explore the possibility of developing a future career or even gaining immediate partnerships through short interviews
  • get information on alternative career paths
  • promote their professional profile 

There will also be updates on policies, priorities and mechanisms which exist for improving the career opportunities and mobility of researchers.

The two-day event is being held as part of the ’ERA Mobility and Researchers Career Days in Greece: A contribution to decrease brain drain (ERA-MobilCar.GR -HORIZON 2020)’ project, the goal of which is to highlight the professional opportunities for highly qualified young scientists who wish to work in the wider field of research.

Attendance is free of charge.
