‘Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece’ - a welcome addition to EKT’s eJournals platform

The annually published ‘Bulletin’ contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and information resulting from the research activities, which have mainly been conducted in Greece, of Greek and foreign scientists. It first appeared in 1953 and included 14 scientific papers.

With the electronic publication of the journal ‘Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece’, the National Documentation Centre (EKT) is launching a new collaboration with the Geological Society of Greece. The  publication, which promotes and develops scientific knowledge on geological  topics by publishing original scientific articles and reviews covering all geoscience fields, will now be made available as part of EKT’s e-Journal platform which is one of its ePublishing services. By publishing an e-edition of the journal, it is hoped that not only the needs of the country’s scientific community will be served, but also academic publishing and Greek journal publications will be promoted internationally.

As an independent platform of the e-Publishing service, eJournals hosts high-quality journals (24 so far), offers a single publishing platform and open access to reliable content with the aim of enhancing  academic communication and research activities. Today, EKT’s online electronic publishing infrastructure covering all stages of the publishing process is used by many prominent bodies in their transition to modern scientific publications.

The Geological Society of Greece, a non-profit scientific association, was founded in 1951 to:

  • contribute to research, education and promote geological sciences
  • help its members and other interested parties through updates and continuous improvement of their knowledge of geoscience developments
  • contribute to the exploitation of geological research findings and the potential of geological sciences for economic growth, social progress, protection of the environment and improved quality of life
  • contribute to international co-operation of geosciences in the realising of the above aims

In addition to publishing a journal, the society organises regular public scientific conferences, workshops, lectures, discussions, international conferences, excursions and scientific expeditions. It also publishes a newsletter, while co-operating with international and European goesciences organisations for dissemination of geological research findings, popularisation of the sciences and information for citizens.

The annually published ‘Bulletin’ contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and information resulting from the research activities, which have mainly been conducted in Greece, of Greek and foreign scientists. It first appeared in 1953 and included 14 scientific papers. Topics covered have included Tectonics, Geomorphology, Seismology, and Paleontology. Every paper for publication is peer-reviewed by at least two independent reviewers selected by the Editorial Board. Special reports from international scientific conferences which are held under the auspices of the Geological Society of Greece every 3 years, as well as workshop reports from various scientific committees make a significant contribution to the journal. Since 1999, the English title, ‘Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece,’ has accompanied its Greek title.
